Yesterday a friend and I birded Fernhill Wetlands in Forest Grove starting at
11am. There was a lot of activity around Dabbler's Marsh. There were many
ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS buzzing around me and even one who repeatedly landed right
next to me. We also spotted two RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS. A BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK
sang loudly while we watched a WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE catch flies from a nearby
perch. A group of 4 CEDAR WAXWINGS made a brief visit. HOUSE FINCHES, both
AMERICAN and LESSER GOLDFINCHES, and TREE SWALLOWS were all over the trail. 2
CINNAMON TEAL flew in while we stood on the observation platform.
After a lunch break we walked around the rest of the wetland. We spotted
several LEAST SANDPIPERS and 2 SPOTTED SANDPIPERS. We heard several SORA but we
unable to spot one. I got a quick glimpse of a male YELLOW WARBLER and also a
male WILSON'S WARBLER.
Overall we spotted 43 species. It was a pretty good day for us!
