Hi birders,
I took an extended jaunt around the Fern Ridge dikes this morning. A
breeding-plumaged FRANKLIN'S GULL flew right over the Royal Avenue
observation platform at about 7:30 and continued north out of sight. I had
nice scope views of a singing GRASSHOPPER SPARROW in the traditional spot,
along the fenceline a couple hundred yards north of the Royal Avenue
parking lot. One MARBLED GODWIT was with other shorebirds in the pond
northwest of the Fisher Butte observation platform, including three
BLACK-NECKED STILTS, and four BLACK TERNS were flying around. I saw at
least four male and one female BLUE-WINGED TEAL. And the new wetland along
Cantrell Road, just east of the K.R. Nielsen Rd. junction, had four
BONAPARTE'S GULLS and a SOLITARY SANDPIPER.
Good birding!
