I will beat all those who would never consider using anything but a D-SLR to
the punch. In Australia, there's a lot of wide-open spaces and often, a very
long lens would be needed. My superzoom Sony HX400V and several of its
predecessor models have been my main cameras for photos and HD video for a long
time. It produces the equivalent of 1,200mm (50X) with its Zeiss-designed lens
and can jump to 1,680mm by reducing the frame-size. It has almost complete
manual/auto options for video and if you think that its small sensor isn't
capable, take a look at my Flickr Photostream, from the link in my Signature.
However, it's two years old and any day now, Sony may announce its successor,
which may have 4K video capabilities.
