For those who want to look up a piece of Kathy Merrifield's writing, I
recommend the first issue of Bird Watcher's Digest from 2004.

Subject: Kudos to Oregon authors
Oregon Birders On Line:
The current issue of Bird Watcher's Digest has two fine articles by Oregon
authors.
Kathy Merrifeld's "A Yard of My Own" telling of her devleopment of her
bird-friendly Corvalllis yard, is superbly written, as is all of her
writing. Bravo, Kathy!
John Rakestraw's article "Identify Yourself, Gulls on the Fly," is also
well-written. It includes concise drawings to help sort out "Gull Wings at
a Glance." Good job, John.
To find these articles, pick up a copy of Bird Watcher's Digest at your
local bird shop or nature store. Or you can order a subscription at
www.birdwatchersdigest.com or call 1-800-879-2473. I highly recommend this
fine publication. It is well done. It covers a wide spectrum of birders'
interests from foreign travel to backyard, from scientific detail to the
simple joy of listing a "lifer," from rating binoculars and books to
discussing conservation challenges.

"...all the people who can identify a dusky flycatcher when they see one,
... won't add up to enough votes to elect a mayor.... You like those little
red birds, whatever they're called? So do I.... You're a birder, and we're
pals."
