Results of Chinchalo Breeding Bird Survey, today. This survey stops every half mile and at same locations each year. It starts at the junction of Silver Lake Rd. and Hwy 97 and goes across the Klamath Marsh in northern Klamath County. After about 11 miles it heads south into the forest. The marsh seemed more quiet this year than in previous, but the forest seemed more active than in the last couple of years. Black Terns must be nesting in another area of the marsh, or are absent. YELLOW RAILS detected around 6 and 7 mile marks from Hwy 97. I'd imagine on a calm quiet night or evening there would probably be more detected in that area. Use pullouts. HORNED LARKs seemed abundant from 2 to 4 mile marks. GRAY FLYCATCHERs were vocal in the forest. An X denotes species seen or heard in the area, but not detected during survey time.
