This afternoon while photographing more salmonid predation activity at the
mouth of Alsea Bay a juvenile brown pelican flew in and briefly landed
among the foraging birds. This is a FOY for me. While at that location I
observed 46 Aleutian Cackling Geese approach Alsea Bay from the north and
west of Hwy 101. They continued south and the turned over Waldport and
followed the river to my location where they abruptly turned south down the
beach and out of sight. They're definitely taking the long route to the
Aleutians! Oh, and make that 45 ACG as one was a cackler as Id'ed from my
photos.
