Obolists,
We had two bird sightings of note today in our Eugene/Santa Clara-area yard
today.
The first was a male WILSON'S WARBLER. This is the only July sighting of
this species in the 25 years we've lived in this location.
The second involves VAUX' SWIFTS. They successfully nested again in our
chimney this year after failing last year for the first time in perhaps 15
years. Based on absence of daytime chittering, they fledged yesterday.
Well, apparently, once the kids are gone, the party's on; this evening I
counted 54 swifts entering the chimney to roost. This seems quite early for
that high a number. I'll monitor over the next weeks.
