This evening there were two great egrets at Eckman Lake near Waldport. These
are the first egrets I've seen at Alsea Bay this summer.
I also watched three hooded mergansers actively feeding on bullfrog tadpoles in
the lake. The tadpoles were really large and difficult for the ducks to handle
and swallow. Some of the tadpoles had rear legs that looked completely
developed and partially developed front legs.
