We were up at EE Wilson north of Corvallis. Nobody around where we walked
into (way off the main road). The change in lighting and temp was incredible.
We had a field of cicadas(crickets?) suddenly start up when the eclipse first
started but totally stop when totality hit and quiet thereafter. Right when
totality happened the oak grove near us exploded with calling Acorns- it was
totally quiet the hour beforehand. The strange light and sudden beam of
sunlight and the end of totality was awe inspiring. Have seen several
partials but never a total, the difference is monumental- like between night
and day : )
We were all totally blown away- it lived up to all the hype.

I saw it in Salem. The total eclipse was super - better than I expected. It
was a bit surprising how the temperature dropped preceding the totality, even
though it stayed quite light until only a bit of the sun had not been blocked.
As darkness was starting the Barn Swallows started making their evening calls.
Crows headed to roost. As soon as light returned the crows were flying out as
they would in the morning, and an Anna’s Hummingbird started calling.
The traffic north to Portland….not so good.
