Hi All,
I birded around Polk County some today. At the Monmouth Sewage Ponds were
1 Cliff Swallow and 1 N Rough-winged Swallow. There may have been 2 of
each of these but I could never see two at the same time. Also present was
a Bonaparte's Gull. The Barrow's Goldeneye which was first found on 1-12
is still there. There were also 4 male Greater Scaup.
At BSNWR I found one Acorn Woodpecker. This is only the 2nd or 3rd time I
have seen such there. Also, on the loop trail were 2 Orange-crowned
Warblers.
I then headed up to Bald Mt and about 2 miles before the gate I heard a
Pygmy Owl. On top were 2 Gray Jays and a few Mt Quail calling in the area.
A nice day, and finally some sunshine and no rain!
