Seattle is a place with more Bald Eagles than nesting territory. One
spring (early march) I was watching a nest in a mature fir tree. A
pair of adult Bald Eagles was fighting a second adult pair that was
assisted by an immature Bald Eagle. Over a period of 20 minutes the
resident pair was forced from the nest by the three intruders and I
believe the eaglets were killed. During the next week, a pair of
Adults gradually abandoned the nest. The following spring the nest was
occupied by a pair of adult Bald Eagles that used different perches
and allowed an immature Eagle to remain in their territory. I believe
the invading pair successfully seized the territory and that next year
succeeded in raising two fledglings.
