Hello all,
For those of you in the Corvallis area, Oregon State University is
beginning its 2017 Ecology and Conservation of Biodiversity Seminar Series.
This is a weekly seminar on *Fridays at* *3 PM in LINC 302 *(Learning
Innovation Center) for anybody interested in Ecology topics. Our first
speaker may be of interest to you, he is *Dr. Pete Marra, Director of the
Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center* and dubbed the “father of migratory
connectivity research.” His seminar “Studying Birds in the Context of the
Annual Cycle: Carry-over Effects and Seasonal Interactions” will take place
on *Friday 9/29*. Please see the attached flyer and information below. We
are attempting to make these seminars available online and I will send
information if this happens for this seminar.
Hope those who are interested can attend!
Jennifer Nelson, Masters Student
Department of Fisheries and Wildlife
Oregon State University
More information about Dr. Pete Marra:
Dr. Pete Marra’s long term research on American Redstarts has resulted in
one of the most extensive bodies of research demonstrating the importance
of seasonal effects and full annual cycle research. This work includes
research linking behavioral dominance and wintering habitat quality, and
demonstrating carry-over effects where winter condition affects
reproductive success and migration departure dates. Dr. Marra’s work also
includes projects studying migratory patterns, nest success in urban
environments, disease ecology, and bird-friendly coffee agroforestry.
