I spent the last two nights at Diamond Lake, birding, and just generally enjoying myself. Russ Namitz from Medford joined me last night for some rainy owling and woodpeckering today. Some of the highlights include: 2 Great Horned Owls, 1 of which personally escorted me out of her territory at the Diamond Lake South Marsh 1 Barred Owl Mountain Bluebirds north of Lemolo Lake on NF 700 Barrow's Goldeneye at the Diamond Lake Sewage ponds along with 6 tree swallows Lotsa: Red-Breasted Sapsuckers Black-Backed Woodpeckers Hairy Woodpeckers Northern Flickers Pileated Woodpeckers And 1 Male AMERICAN THREE-TOED WOODPECKER near the south entrance to Crater Lake We did not find any Boreal Owls, driving sleet and rain turned aside our snowshoeing expedition.
