On 21 July I had an Empidonax doing a Cordilleran-type call at the first creek
crossing on the Big Indian Trail that leads out of South Steens Campground. The
call was a perfect match for the Cordilleran recording on Merlin and with
Cordillerans I heard the following day in the Ruby Mtns of NV. I will post
audio in an eBird list once I get home and have better reception etc. Probably
can’t call this bird to species, but it’ll be a data point, anyway, in this
Great Basin transition zone for these flycatchers as well as the solitary
vireos and the scrub-jays, FWIW. If anyone else is in the Steens and wants to
look for this bird and get better recordings, it was at the crossing and
ranging just downstream from it, which is almost 2 miles in from the trailhead.
Expect stream noise to interfere, however.
