This morning we dropped by Pony Slough between choirs- the TROPICAL
KINGBIRD was still hanging in there- day 7.
This afternoon we did a dog walk out on N Spit at the old Weyco settling
pond site. Nice assortment of ducks- numbers total guesstimates:
250- A Wigeon
80- RN Ducks
20- Scaup
20- N Shoveler
20- Hoodie Mergs
10- GW Teal
5- Canvasback
4- Ruddy Ducks
2- Cinnamon Teal
Then walked over to bay side where there were about 50 young male RW
Blackbirds feeding on the spruce cones atop the Sitka spruce. I have seen
them feed on the cones for years but never have mentioned it on OBOL.
A little further out there were two TROPICAL KINGBIRDS feeding along edge
of bay. I had a single out here about a week ago but it was a couple miles
NE so probably a different bird, so likely third report with 4 birds total
in the last week. Always one of my favorite species this time of year!
There were 20 dowitchers feeding along bay likely Long-billeds with a
couple BB Plovers and a few Killdeer also. Bay loaded with Surf Scoters, RN
Grebes, Bufflehead, C Loons, Horned Grebes- the usual stuff.
Early AM fog walk at Millicoma found lots of shorebirds on bay maybe 200 BB
Plovers, 2000 Dunlin and just one G Yellowlegs.
