The female BROWN BOOBY found by Sabine Berzins on August 24th was still
hanging out off the BLM boat ramp on North Spit Coos Bay yesterday 23 Nov.
Today (24 Nov) will be its *3* month anniversary- incredible!
Back in 2012 many got to see the Brown Booby that was discovered by Suzanna
Eggler on 28 October and stayed through 9 December (only 43 day!). I think
it was probably a state bird at the time for a lot of observers (and a
lifer for some like me). I remember that bird disappearing after a spell of
sub-freezing temperatures in the bay area. I checked on it quite a bit.
Since then this species has been observed a remarkable number of times
in Oregon, but it never ceases to amaze me to see them in Oregon.
Who knows how much longer this bird will be around, but it has sure been a
pleasure to see it on my frequent visits to the North Spit of Coos Bay.
We are pretty lucky to have such an amazing state to bird in and also super
fortunate to have such a wonderful birding community.
