Today’s roundup:
Millicoma Marsh: 1st winter HARRIS’S SPARROW continues.
No Collared-doves even in neighborhood where WW Dove was in late Dec in N
Bend. Did see a single PALM WARBLER in front of Business Center across from
old entrance to N Bend airport. That makes 8 in Coos Co. this winter.
Looked for Red-naped Sapsucker reported in Riverton on Saturday’s Coquille
Valley CBC and found a RB x RNSA. RNSA remains a bird I still need for the
county... Also RBSA in same apple tree feeding on apples.
Went to Johnson Mill Pond near Coquille to see if the two BARN and one TREE
SWALLOW were still lingering that were there Saturday on the CBC but no
swallows. Did see another RB Sapsucker. There were 10 E Wigeon on this pond
on Saturday’s CBC and probably still are. Last year on the CBC there were
almost 13,000 A Wigeon and 17 E Wigeon- this year 4800 A Wigeon and the 10
E Wigeon (plus other dux).
Oh forgot to mention while unsuccessfully looking for Tropical K at Bandon
Marsh yesterday with Dave Lauten and Kathy Castelein we had 8 RED
CROSSBILLS flyover, the first in a long while and a species missed on all
three south coast CBCs.
Cloudy and cool today- the hail from Saturday night’s storm still hasn’t
all melted and it looks like little snow drifts along road at top of Beaver
Hill between Coos Bay and Bandon.
