My wife ran inside a few minutes ago to report 4 Wild(ha) Turkeys had just
flown in (from where?) and landed in a neighbors yard- a first for us. We
live across the street from Mingus Park in Coos Bay.
Other sightings of late at our place include VG Swallows on the 15th,
singing YR Warblers this week, a Turkey Vulture on Thursday when it was 73
out, multiple male Rufous Hummers displaying around our place (for weeks
now) one of which has over 50% green on its back (but has a Rufous type
display), and the continuing male Eurasian Wigeon in the park. The RS Hawk
continues also and can often be seen sitting across the street on top of a
power pole- I haven't seen him nab any more gulls from the park lately.
Gull diversity is usually good at the park. Haven't checked lately but
we normally have Western, GW, Ring-billed, CA, and often a few Thayer's
and Herrings. Sometimes the phoebe in the park pops up in our yard- always
fun to see it. Our red flowering currants are in full bloom and
the bumblebees and hummers are thick.
I haven't been able to get out in a while but I imagine the Purple Finches
should be singing away on the north spit by now and that OC Warblers and C
Yellowthroats should be heard singing away in another week or so in the
same location.
