I enjoyed showing off to a couple new to birding the 30 or so EVENING GROSBEAKS
that continue to arrive daily soon after daylight. Grosbeaks can be hard to see
clearly up in the trees, and the birds at the feeders and on the ground gave
them very good views. The grosbeaks are gone by noon, but that's because the
sunflower seeds run out by then. BANDTAILS are here daily, as well. Both sexes
of RUFOUS have been visiting the feeders for a couple of weeks now, and
VIOLET-GREEN swallows have acknowledged the nest box we have had out for them
many years.
On a trip out to the Gorge this week -- saw a half dozen TURKEY VULTURES, and
could hear MEADOWLARKS singing at the Catherine Creek/Coyote Wall trail area.
Still nice variety of early spring wildflowers, with later species starting to
bloom, as well. Better hurry if you want to see grass widows and yellow bells!
