I once found a dead RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER frozen to the side of a tree. Back in my road kill collecting days, I found the larvae of aquatic helgrammites (identified by none other than DAN THACKABERRY) in the crop of a WESTERN SCREECH OWL. Howard Bruner once brought me a dead GREAT HORNED OWL still gripping a MEW GULL (also dead). It had been electrocuted when it chose the wrong spot to stop and eat. We recently found BARN OWL parts beneath a suspected GREAT HORNED OWL roosting spot. I've also found BARRED OWL parts under likely GHOW roosts. -- Mike Patterson Astoria, OR On watch in the Seawatch http://www.surfbirds.com/community-blogs/northcoastdiaries/?p=1506 OBOL archives: www.freelists.org/archive/obol Manage your account or unsubscribe: //www.freelists.org/list/obol Contact moderators: obol-moderators@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
