Hi -
I have attached a photo of Chuck's ruff from the Hatfield Marine Science
Center, Newport. The photo is heavily cropped, but otherwise unmanipulated.
The Ruff is a juvenile, and very bright buffy. I think it is big enough to be
male. It has rather long and lax tertials that tend to be curl upward in the
breeze whenever it turned downwind.
Although i managed to isolate it in the photo, it was feeding among roosting
gulls, and appeared to prefer being with them to being alone.
I have a couple sharp but badly backlit photos of it in flight that show the
modern U-shaped white bar across the rump
