A very useful exercise. The bird looks paler on the underside than the local
Anna’s I see. A reminder of how varied birds can be.
This time of year the young Golden-crowned Sparrows are busy turning themselves
into a variety of different species as they develop speckle-patterns, odd
temporary head patterns and other inconvenient looks. Fortunately most of them
stay big and fat.
