morning all ... here's a suggestion for the group leaders who just *might* have
a Novice person on their team --- I dont know if it's just the Columbia sector
of the Portland CBC or all the sectors, but I get my tally sheet in Excel
format ... it's very easy to just print out a copy of that sheet in
alphabetical order ... have it tucked on your clipboard/whatever and if you end
up with a Novice/first-timer doing tally then let them put the ticks on the
alphabetical sheet ... MUCH easier to tally that way ... and it doesn't take
much for the experienced taxonomic-oriented person afterwards to transfer to
the final sheet ... and it makes for a much more positive experience for the
first time beginning birder. I know when I was handed the tally sheet for my
first CBC, the sheet alone was scary. Even today I do my tallys in alphabetical
and then transfer later to the taxonomic forms.
