Hi all,
On Tuesday morning I birded Broughton Beach to catch up with the three
continuing Sanderlings. I was a bit disappointed to find a new camp set up
there already, and when I got home I sent a message to Metro about it. I
was amazed to receive a response on Wednesday that the lead ranger for the
area had already checked it out, determined it was east of Metro property,
and passed my message along to Port of Portland. They are attempting to
work together to prevent the oh-so-memorable camp scene of last summer.
If you bird the area and find any camps that look like they're in it for
the long haul I highly recommend contacting both Metro and the Port.

As for the birding that morning (5/3) I had an unusual assortment of birds
including the three Sanderlings:
Wilson's Snipe- 1 Flushed from the grass near the Sea Scout Base
Least Sandpiper- 1
Northern Shovelers- 10 flying east, low over the river
Gadwall- 1 in river close to the parking lot
Horned Larks- 2
Good birding!
