Terry Wahl just called. He said there are many thousands of ALEUTIAN
CACKLING GEESE moving today. Rick McKenzie, who has a ranch north of
Floras Lake, often hosts these birds before they head north to the
Aleutians. Yesterday Rick estimated 10-15,000 on his ranch (they first
showed up on the 6th). Terry said there are many more today then the last
few days though. He also noted a steady stream of shorebirds heading north,
the first real big push of the spring. Many Savannah Sparrows now too, I
noticed pipits moving yesterday at New River, Coos also.
No kingbirds yet at his place which sometimes holds tens of Westerns by
early to mid-May.
Merry migration!
