Some good is done by Barred Owls, I think there are not many natural predators
of American Crows in downtown Portland.
Four or Five years ago a Barred Owl was photographed eating an American Crow in
downtown Portland. Someone brought the photo to me wanting to know what kind
of owl. The photo was taken near the Portland Waterfront Marriott at SW 2nd
and Clay by kitchen staff on their smoke break.
I suppose a person might be able to locate a Barred Owl by finding the downtown
Portland crow roost.
There was a huge American Crow roost in the trees all along SW Second Avenue.
I used to put my umbrella up to walk into work through that area. Hotel guests
were often surprised, some happy, some not so happy as the crows awakened and
took flight in the mornings.
