Join the Audubon Society of Portland for a special free author event on
March 23 at 7:00 PM in Heron Hall for an evening with John Shewey,
author of the new Timber Press Field Guide, _BIRDS OF THE PACIFIC
NORTHWEST_. Highlighting the breadth of this beautiful new book, he'll
present a special program on BIRDING THE BORDER COUNTRY: LAKE, HARNEY,
WASHOE AND HUMBOLDT COUNTIES.

Among the remotest regions in the Western United States, Northwestern
Nevada and adjacent Southeast Oregon--the border country--offers
outstanding and largely unheralded birding opportunities. Hart Mountain
National Antelope Refuge (Oregon) and Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge
(Nevada) alone offer excellent birdwatching, but these sprawling
preserves barely scratch the surface of what this area offers to people
who love wild lands and wildlife.

John Shewey is a longtime freelance writer and photographer, and
coauthor of _Birds of the Pacific Northwest_. He has spent decades
exploring the border country. At the very real risk of catching John's
infectious enthusiasm, join him for this special presentation
celebrating the diversity of the Northern Great Basin, and learn where,
when, and how to explore this remarkable region.
