Hi all,
In a quick check of swan flocks along Suver-Airlie Rd (this road is
Suver Rd. on the east side of Hwy 99W and Airlie Rd. on the west side)
in southern Polk Co., I found:
- 8 TRUMPETER SWANS on the NE side of Hwy 99W x Suver/Airlie Rd.
- 7 TRUMPETER SWANS + 5 TUNDRA SWANS on the NW side of same intersection
- at least 16 TRUMPETER SWANS, likely more, in a loose flock of 60 or so
swans (though most of the remainder likely Tundras) just SW of the
intersection of Airlie Rd. with Simpson Rd. (north of the former
ag-service town of Airlie, now more like a hamlet).
So at least 31 Trumpeters altogether, though I don't doubt there are
could be more than 40. The last location makes for difficult swan
identification due to lack of safe turnouts.
Good birding,
Joel
