Today, I observed pigeon guillemots in Alsea Bay and Yaquina Bay for the first
time this year. Also, this afternoon an osprey was at the nest on the channel
marker on the west side of the Yaquina Bay Bridge. This is the first osprey I
have seen at a nest site in Lincoln County this year but this is often arrival
week.
I enjoyed watching the scoter flock feasting on herring eggs along the south
jetty at Yaquina Bay. With photographs I was able to document two long-tailed
ducks present today. Also joining the surf scoter flock was one first-year
male white-winged scoter and one adult male black scoter. Photos of these
birds can be seen here
