430-630pm

N. Jetty Road, Siuslaw River, Florence

Greater White-fronted Geese - 30
Black Brant - 55
Green-winged Teal - 15
Northern Pintail - 3
Northern Harrier - 1 (strafed the flocks much like a Peregrine!)
Black-bellied Plover - 3
Semipalmated Plover - 150+
Greater Yellowlegs - 2
Whimbrel - 7
Ruddy Turnstone - 1
Red Knot - 2
Western Sandpipers - 7000+
Least Sandpipers - 800+
Dunlin - 300+
Short-billed Dowitcher - 55
Dowitcher sp. - 5
Bonaparte's Gulls -70+
Caspian Terns - 25

I also observed a probable Semipalmated Sandpiper, but the flock flushed. Birds were still flying past when I left, but nearly all the flocks had left the tidal flats (no more flats).

I've not seen an event like this in at least a decade and then, the variety of birds wasn't as great.

regards,
Diane Pettey
