In a word yes on both accounts. I have had two explosions of Rufous now. One
about a week ago and another the last few days. The second one is crazy. They
almost drained two feeders today and in normal years I only put one out that
lasts for up to 4 or 5 days.
I have also seen quite a few Anna's mixed in which usually are very scarce when
the Rufous are in town.
With so much competition it's been quite easy to hand feed them which has been
a lot of fun. Had a one little guy sit on my hand while eating out of the hand
feeder. I've had them fly up and start eating while I'm hanging the feeders too
not caring the feeder was still in my hand. Crazy year.

I was surprised this morning by having three Annas Hummingbirds at my feeder.
My first Annas showed up at my feeder on February 7th (I had one a week earlier
in the neighborhood). That adult male has been present ever since. On Sunday a
female showed up and she has remained and is sitting at the feeder as I write.
A while ago while the male was sitting at the feeder another adult male came up
and they took it outside for a couple of tussles. I know the coast is seeing a
major migration of Rufous Hummingbirds now; is anyone else seeing a big increase
in Annas activities?
