Facebook is free to join and you can always delete your account later I
presume if you have issues with Facebook. Then you'd join the Birding
Oregon fb group and search the post till you found the post with the black
and white oystercatcher photos. Don't bother now though, because for an
unknown reason, the American Oystercatcher post has been removed and it is
as if it was never there.
I posted the Facebook link to the oystercatcher post to OBOL on my 15
minute break at work. I had seen a reference to the post on the Coos RBA
WhatsApp group. I thought of you Paul and searched the Birding Oregon fb
group for the oystercatcher pics and copied the link to the post and then
quickly posted it to OBOL, knowing that you and others (and me for that
matter) would really like these rare bird reports and news copied to OBOL
post haste. I only had time for that first minimal post...just to get the
word out. I had faith that others would take it from there and fill in the
gaps. I went back to work, to my job.
George Lakayana Ogbeide is the original poster of the American
Oystercatcher photos on Facebook Birding Oregon Group. I don't know him,
but he seems like a nice guy. The original post actually appeared on his
home Facebook page and remains there still. He has photographed birds at
Koll and at Jackson Bottoms in the METRO region.
Several birders worked behind the scenes as many angles as we could to
follow up on the American Oystercatcher post to get more specific location
details from Mr. Ogbeide. I hate to think anyone did anything to offend
him, perhaps he was overwhelmed with inquiries, I don't know, but he is
welcome in the birding community and we are thankful that he shared his
bird photos.
Apparently on Thursday the bird flew off from Harris Beach State Park Beach
to some sea stacks (fide DL). That is all we know for now.
The best anyone can do now is, if they aren't obligated to other
responsibilities, go to Harris Beach and follow up on the report. Has
anyone done that? I'll be at work.
