Hi all,
Here is this year's summary of a very successful 50th Dallas CBC!
We came together to cover the circle perhaps more thoroughly than ever,
with a wide variety of teams covering the Refuge, the Valley, the
foothills, the towns, and the Coast Range. The result: We broke our
all-time species record again, this time by seven species over last year's
122-- 129 species!! And 131 for count week! We didn't find any
megararities, but we found some great birds and almost every regular
species in the count circle! Highlights included Trumpeter Swan, Cinnamon
Teal, Redhead, Thayer's Gull, Say's Phoebe, Orange-crowned Warbler, and
5(!) Lewis's Woodpeckers, along with count-week Townsend's Solitaire and
Cedar Waxwing (actually pretty hard in this circle), approximately 30 (!)
new high count records for the count, award-worthy minestrone soup and
cornbread (Thanks Mom and Dad!), and great hospitality for the countdown
(Thanks Brandon and Andrea!). We had many excellent observers join us
across the circle, and our great coverage paid off. Thanks so much to all
our participants for making this an awesome count!
If you didn't join us this year, we hope to see you next year to help us
break our record for a fourth year in a row ! ;)
