I only counted motorless birds for the first five months of 2015 (gone
traveling/in college out of state for the rest of year) but had 137 species
in that time, all around Eugene. We'll see how I do in Walla Walla this
year!

This wasn't a very good year for me, but just to provide a benchmark for
the sake of comparison, I feel I should share my tally. I found 127
species, which is down from 131 species last year, and 154 in 2013. I
didn't keep track of birds by county, but since all of my motorless
birding was on foot, I don't think I managed to get outside of Benton
County this year.
Most of my longer-range walks were with our puppyish dog, Penelope. We
had some problems with a nasty little uncaged rat-dog at one of the
houses along Robison Rd., on the north side of Coffin Butte, so that
limited my enthusiasm for checking that route. E.E. Wilson Wildlife Area
wetlands were extraordinarily dry this spring, summer, and fall, so that
limited opportunities for shorebirds and waterfowl.
Well, there's always next year!
