TWO Slate-colored Juncos are with my usual yard flock of Oregon's
today. I think one is male and the other female as one shows a faint
brownish tone up the back of the neck onto the crown while the other's
neck/head is just charcoal toned (I'm using Sibley's 2nd Ed.). I only
have a photo of the female so far. One made a brief appearance here
last year on March 31. These two are staying with the rest of the flock
(no bullying seen).
Also, a FOY WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW appeared here today. In 2014 they
first appeared on March 21st and last year it was April 6. There has
been several mixed with Golden-crowns and Finches along the RR tracks in
town all winter but none ever travel the 3 miles up into the woods to my
house until spring. Several times last spring one sang outside my
window during the night.
