Oops. That banding date for my bird was July 30, 2010 so it’s a decade old.

In past 5 days I have photographed 3 color banded Caspian terns (2 on the
ground and 1 in flight) at the mouth of Alsea Bay. So far I have only
received the banding data for one of these birds and it was banded as a chick
on July 30, 2019 near Bellingham, Washington.

Yesterday at Broughton Beach in Portland there were 5 Caspian Terns sitting
on the beach at the gull roost spot. One had leg bands which I reported,
and very quickly got this response:
Species: Caspian Tern
Date banded: 07/15/2009
Banding Location: NEAR CHINOOK, CLATSOP COUNTY, OREGON, USA
Age: WAS TOO YOUNG TO FLY WHEN BANDED IN 2009
So this tern has been around for almost 11 years now. The average life span
of a Caspian Tern is supposedly 12 years.
