Polk County does not charge for GIS data. We found that the cost of
managing licenses was not covering the costs we were charging. We now have
an on-line license and data is free of charge. We do NO custom work for
other agencies or the public to reformat our GIS data. Our GIS is funded by
department assessments and a small recording fee. The recording fee covers
the cost of maintaining GIS and land information web systems. We provide
access to surveys, deeds, historical deeds, property, tax and assessment
information through web applications for the public at no charge.

I'm looking to understand more about who charges for GIS data. Just a
simple we do would be great. If this goes further with my governance group
I will ask for more details.
