Since the pharmacist on the night shift is covering multiple ICUs, particularly
an NICU that requires patient specific dosing, remote order entry alone would
not meet the needs of our patients however it could serve to augment current
staffing requirements during periods when staffing is an issue, such as a snow
storm, or seasonal surges in patient census. However, with the advent of
automated EMR systems, we are moving towards implementing processes that
permit our own pharmacists, who know our procedures, to work from home during
those times when supplemental staff is required.

Subject: [nyschp.dop] Remote order entry
Good Morning!
A member would like to know if your institution uses remote order entry for
night coverage? Who do you use? Any comments? Recommendations?
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Sudha
