The profiles dialog loads a list of profiles, and then automatically
focusses the one which is currently active. So you could start by
looking at source\gui\configProfiles.py to see how it does that, then go
from there.
I'm sure that many people on this list will be willing to help if you
get stuck, but it's difficult to answer whether this is an appropriate
task for a beginner without actually trying to do it ourselves.
