DUTY LOCATIONS:

1 vacancy in the following location: Hampton, VA

WHO MAY APPLY:

Current students enrolled or accepted for enrollment at a qualifying 
institution pursuing a Master's or PhD degree in an appropriate field of 
Engineering (*Please see list of degrees in Education Requirements Section) on 
a half time or full time basis.

DUTIES:

Serves as a NASA's Pathways Intern Employment (IEP) Program student located in 
the Research Directorate. Participant completes assigned duties, tasks, 
readings, and developmental activities specified in the program.

This is a student Research position engaged in professional scientific and 
engineering work which is systematic, critical, intensive investigation 
directed toward discovering, disseminating, and applying new or expanded 
knowledge in a professional discipline. Research includes, but is not limited 
to, empirical and theoretical investigations with one or more of the following 
objectives:

a) Experiments and analyses to improve understanding and predict the magnitude 
of noise reduction as a result of specialized duct absorbing materials for both 
aircraft engine inlets and hot engine exhausts.

b) Acoustics research aimed at establishing criteria for human response to 
aircraft noise and sonic boom, including the synthesis and simulation of 
flyover sounds.

c) Research to understand and control interior noise and its effects on 
aircraft, rotorcraft, and spacecraft structures, passengers, and crew.
