Attention High School Sophomores

Are you a high school sophomore from the Hampton 
Roads/Tidewater/Richmond/Northern VA areas who is interested in engineering or 
computer science?

If so, then you need to give serious consideration to participating in the 2015 
Recruiting Initiative for Student Engineers (RISE) offered by the Center for 
the Enhancement of Engineering Diversity (CEED) at VA Tech (VT) on Saturday, 
April 25, 2015.

The VT College of Engineering is committed to increasing the diversity of the 
engineering professional community. As part of that commitment, CEED is pleased 
to host its 2015 Recruiting Initiative for Student Engineers (RISE) event this 
spring. High school sophomores who are interested in engineering or computer 
science are invited to join us in Blacksburg, VA where you will meet students, 
alumni, staff, and faculty who want to introduce you to VT and what we have to 
offer in our top ranked College of Engineering. We are especially interested in 
members of CHROME (Cooperating Hampton Roads Organizations for Minorities in 
Engineering), girls, and diverse students of color traditionally 
underrepresented in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) 
fields are especially encouraged to apply!

This is an informative, fun, day-trip for high school sophomores only. It 
offers free transportation, a tailgate party/picnic, and admission to the 2015 
VT Spring Football Game on Saturday, April 25, 2015. You’ll meet faculty, 
staff, and students from VT’s College of Engineering who will be your hosts for 
the day.

If you are a high achieving high school sophomore (or know of one) who is 
interested in pursuing engineering or computer science (or finding out what 
it’s all about), this is the opportunity you have been waiting for !!!

Attention High School Juniors

If you are a High School Junior in the Hampton 
Roads/Tidewater/Richmond/Northern VA areas who is interested in engineering or 
computer science, the Virginia Tech Center for the Enhancement of Engineering 
Diversity (CEED*)<http://www.eng.vt.edu/ceed> would like to sponsor your 
attendance at the upcoming 2015 VT Engineering Open House on Monday, April 13, 
2015 as part of the 2015 VT Recruiting Initiative for Student Engineers (RISE). 
The Engineering Open House will give prospective engineering and computer 
science students a special opportunity to discover the tremendous academic 
offerings available from the VA Tech College of 
Engineering<http://www.eng.vt.edu/>.

The Engineering Open House includes a free bus trip to VA Tech from the Hampton 
Roads/Tidewater/Richmond/Northern VA areas, an overnight stay, and a day 
exploring VA Tech's undergraduate programs in engineering and computer science. 
In addition to touring the campus, participants will explore the VT College of 
Engineering, its laboratories and research facilities, dining facilities, and 
meet with VT engineering professors, faculty, staff, and current engineering 
students.

Only students who are currently high school Juniors are eligible to 
participate. Students who participated in the 2014 RISE program as sophomores, 
members of CHROME (Cooperating Hampton Roads Organizations for Minorities in 
Engineering), girls, and diverse students of color traditionally 
underrepresented in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) 
fields are especially encouraged to apply! However, you do not have to be a 
member of CHROME or a past participant in RISE to register - you only need to 
be a good student (grades) interested in discovering engineering or computer 
science at VA Tech!

Transportation, meals, and overnight lodging are all provided at no-cost to 
you. The bus will depart Sunday morning, 4/12/2015, and return Monday evening, 
4/13/2015. Adult chaperones will be provided.

This trip has been confirmed. Detailed information regarding trip logistics 
will be announced via email to students who 1) register and 2) are selected to 
attend.

Registration (sign-up) is competitive, and the only way to register for this 
bus trip is via the online registration webpage

Note that the Engineering Open House is a public event, and registering to 
attend on the VT website has no relationship to this special CEED-sponsored 
RISE overnight bus trip. The only way to go on this special CEED-sponsored
