Agriculture Student Scholarships

Harvest Some Financial Aid

Individuals interested in pursuing an education in the field of Agriculture and
related subject areas can apply for funding from several sources to help them
achieve their educational goals. Perhaps one of the following programs may be
of assistance:

Monsanto Company Agriculture Scholarship

High school seniors living anywhere in the United States are eligible to apply
for one of 100 scholarships in the amount of $1,500.00 each. The purpose of
these one-time awards is to help finance students from farming families who
have chosen to major in an agriculture-related area of study.

The Selection Committee evaluates such factors as academic achievement, GPA
scores, participation in extracurricular activities, and the contents of a
personal essay submitted by each applicant when choosing scholarship recipients.

United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) 1890 National Scholars Program

The Program awards over 35
scholarships<http://www.1890scholars.program.usda.gov/univ.html> to students
attending one of the 1890 Historically Black Land-Grant Institutions, 18
universities in all. Funds are provided to pay for tuition, books, fees, and
living expenses for four years, along with a computer and software. Successful
applicants will also work for the US Department of Agriculture while attending
school and be entitled to employee benefits.

Applicants for this scholarship program must be first-year college students
studying Agriculture, Natural Resources, Food, or a related subject area with a
GPA of at least 3.0 and a combined score of 1500 or more on the SAT.

For each year that they received funding, recipients will work for the
Department of Agriculture for a one-year period.

1st Farm Credit Services "At the Heart of a Growing America" Agricultural
Scholarship Program

High school seniors either living or attending school in the area serviced by
1st Farm Credit Services who are planning on studying Agriculture are eligible
to apply for one of more than 20 - $750.00
scholarships<http://www.usfarmcredit.com/AboutUs/1st/HeartScholarship.asp>.

Academic achievement, the content of a personal essay, and level of involvement
in community and youth agricultural organizations will be taken into account by
the Selection Committee when determining which applicants will be awarded
scholarships.

United Agribusiness League Scholarship Program

Students studying agriculture-related subjects who reside in the United States,
Canada, or Mexico are eligible to apply for this
scholarship<http://www.ual.org/Scholarship.htm>.

A completed application form, a resume, three letters of recommendation, and an
essay (the topic is assigned each year) are to be submitted by all interested
individuals. Financial need will be considered by the selection committee if
the applicant makes a specific request for the same. In that case, supporting
documentation (bank statements, tax forms, etc.) for the applicant and his or
her family will be required.

Future Farmers of America (FFA) National Collegiate Scholarship Programs

Both high school seniors and college students who are FFA members are eligible
to apply for scholarship funds under this
program<http://www.ffa.org/programs/scholarships/index.html>. Scholarship
monies are to be used to pay for tuition, books, fees, supplies, and
accommodation expenses. In addition to GPA and academic ranking, such factors
as community service, FFA participation, and leadership ability are considered
when selecting successful applicants.

American Agri-Women - Daughters of American Agriculture Scholarships

Each year, several $500.00
scholarships<http://www.americanagriwomen.org/scholarships.htm> are made
available to farm and ranch women (and their daughters) to help defray the cost
of tuition for agriculture-related studies. High-school graduates who can
demonstrate financial need are eligible to apply.

North Dakota State University - College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and
Natural Resources

The College offers many scholarship
opportunities<http://www.ag.ndsu.nodak.edu/colag/coaschol.htm> to both first
year and transfer students, ranging from $100.00-$2,000.00 per annum. Both
general scholarships (open to all students at the College) and program-specific
scholarships are available.

All persons who have applied or been accepted to the College are eligible to
apply for funding. Monies are awarded based on academic achievement (high
school transcripts and SAT scores), not on financial need.

Utah State University - College of Agriculture

A great number (over 100!) scholarships, assistantships, and internships are
available through the College of
Agriculture<http://www.ag.usu.edu/prospective/financial_aid/scholarships/scholarships.html>.
Freshmen, transfer, and continuing education students have the convenience of
using one application form to be considered for all scholarships offered.

The Selection Committee considers a number of factors when selecting
scholarship recipients: agricultural experience, a student's goals, financial
need, involvement in community organizations, and academic achievement.

The AgCredit Scholarships provide $1,000.00 in funding to students in the
Agriculture Production or Agricultural Business Management Programs. Five such
scholarships will be awarded; two based on academic achievement and three based
on demonstrated financial need.

Oregon State University - College of Agricultural Sciences

All students at the College of Agricultural Sciences are encouraged to apply
for available scholarships<http://agsci.oregonstate.edu/students/schol.html>.
By filling in one application form, an individual can be considered for all the
scholarship programs, of which there are more than 100.

All first-year students applying for financial assistance are required to
submit a completed application form (available online), high-school transcripts
and SAT scores, along with a personal statement for consideration.
