Hello my name is Cecile Sawyer. I live in Killeen, Texas. I am a 30 -year-old
wife and mother of four who's interest in aviation began at the age of seven.
When I was introduced to the U.S. Space Camp program. Although I was never able
to attend the program due to cost. I knew then that aviation would be my
lifelong dream. As an adult I've pursued this dream and I've learned that cost
was still going to remain my biggest obstacle. So I decided to look into ways
of lowering cost of learning to fly; and came across a few private schools in
my local area that cut university cost in half. If not lower. This was exciting
and lead me to introduce myself to a few people at the schools. Located at the
Skylark air field in Killeen, TX. I met a woman who gave me the name and the
phone number to a private pilot and instructor who owned a few of the airplanes
in their hangers. Much to my surprise when speaking with him he is certified to
train all the way to ATP and quoted me a price of $17,000. Unfortunately I am
still unable to pay for it. Which brings me to why I'm contacting the Bessie
Coleman Foundation. I am seeking help with hopes that someone in this
foundation would consider training me pro-Bono to any level of certification.
As I pursue my dreams of becoming an ATP. I am very eager to learn and would
greatly appreciate any advise or suggestions. I thank you very much for your
