Howard University invites nominations and applications for the position of 
Provost. The Provost serves as the Chief Academic Officer of this prestigious, 
Doctoral/Research Extensive university, and is responsible for ensuring the 
quality of Howard's academic and clinical offerings, its faculty, and its 
student academic experience.

The ideal candidate will have a record of significant academic accomplishments, 
and be an individual capable of promoting a vision for academic programming 
that distinguishes the academic strength and impact of Howard and enhances the 
University's stature as a premiere intellectual community.

The Provost is directly accountable to Howard University's President, Dr. 
Sidney A. Ribeau, and is expected to assume other executive leadership 
responsibilities as delegated by the President. Reporting to the Provost are 
all of the Deans of Howard University's schools and colleges, the Health 
Sciences enterprise, and the positions of Deputy, Associate and Assistant 
Provosts.

The Provost is responsible for implementing the University's academic renewal 
plan and clinical excellence aims; supporting synergy among all colleges, 
schools, academic departments, centers, institutes, and professional programs; 
overseeing the research enterprise; and meeting (all) academic accreditation 
requirements and standards. The Provost will be expected to assume leadership 
responsibility for the advancement of Howard University's academic mission; 
further strengthen the University's scholarly environment and research profile; 
build upon existing programs, and plan for new academic programs and facilities 
that fit with Howard University's mission and strategic plan; provide 
leadership for the enhancement of Howard University's Health Sciences academic 
and clinical programs; and play a meaningful role in the University's 
fundraising and development efforts.
