DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

This is an EPA-Time Limited (exempt from the state personnel act) position. The 
Program Coordinator for the African American Male Initiative is a crucial 
resource for the development of African American Males and other male 
underrepresented populations on campus. The Program Coordinator shares the 
responsibilities for the daily operation of the African American Male 
Initiative/Centennial Scholars Program while providing leadership, mentoring, 
advising, and programming for students. This individual provides support and 
guidance to insure academic and social success while promoting cultural 
pluralism and dialogue on matters related to African American Males' 
development for campus community. The Program Coordinator is supervised by the 
Director and will assist in the development of the long-term goals for the 
African American Male Initiative/Centennial Scholars Program.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
*      Establish programs and services to promote the success of African 
American Males on campus.
*      Serve as a resource for African American male students.
*      Serve as the primary advisor to Student African American Brotherhood 
(SAAB).
*      Supervise program Graduate Assistants and Interns.
*      Respond to individual student and campus concerns.
*      Develop, administer, and manage African American Male Initiative/ 
Centennial Scholars Program events and programs.
*      Facilitate activities, programs, and campus-wide dialogue to promote an 
appreciation of diversity.
*      Create, implement and evaluate cultural events for the campus community.
*      Maintain adequate and accurate assessments of programs and events.
*      Facilitate student leadership development which includes selecting, 
training, supervising and evaluating student projects.
*      Collaborate with other campus offices including, but not limited to, 
Residence Life, University College, Athletics, Student Activities, New Student 
Services, Academic and Community Service Learning Program, and Civic Engagement 
Institute.
*      Collaborate in development of African American Male initiatives and 
cross cultural understanding through academics.
*      Collaborate with faculty and administrators as a knowledgeable resource 
on African American Male initiatives and program ideas.
*      Develop and promote co-curricular initiatives and programs to enhance 
racial/gender and cultural understanding that complements the course offerings 
of the faculty.
*      Maintain accurate records of students, staff, administrators, and 
faculty participating in African American Male Initiative/ Centennial Scholars 
Program.
*      Serve as a contact for faculty.
*      Enhance educational initiatives and cross-cultural understanding during, 
Eagle Institute, Student Government Training, and Resident Assistant training.
*      Serve on various campus committees and councils to represent the 
interest of the Division of Student Affairs.
*      Build partnerships with the local community to enhance the appreciation 
of African American Males.
*      Assume responsibility for other special projects as assigned by the 
Project Director.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Education: Master's degree in counseling, education, or related field.

Experience: The successful candidate should have excellent counseling, 
communication, relationship and teamwork skills; the ability to work with 
diverse populations; and knowledge of first- and second-year students, transfer 
students, higher education philosophies and theories and various computer 
programs. Experience with writing grants and reports is strongly encouraged.
