Archer, a highly decorated member of the Tuskegee Airmen and World War II ace. He was 90 years old. Col Archer entered the Army in Nov 1941. After basic training, he was transferred to Camp Wheeler in Macon, Georgia to attend infantry training. Upon completion of his training at Camp Wheeler, he received training as a Telegrapher and Field Network Communications Specialist where he was promoted to Acting Sergeant as an instructor. In Dec 1942, then Acting Sergeant Archer was accepted to Aviation Cadet Training and reported to Tuskegee Army Airfield. He graduated on 28 Jul 1943, graduating number one in his class and receiving a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant. Col Archer flew 169 missions and is the only confirmed ace of the Tuskegee Airmen with five confirmed aerial victories. He is also credited with destroying six enemy aircraft on the ground. Col Archer's military awards include the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with 18 clusters, the Distinguished Unit Citation, and many other service medals. Following his retirement from active duty in 1970, Col Archer joined General Foods Corp where he rose to become a corporate vice president. Col Archer remained active with the Tuskegee Airmen and was among the original members who attended President Obama's inauguration in 2009. Funeral services have yet to be announced.
