Inclusion and Diversity"*
The Honors College at Oakland University invites proposals for individual
papers, panel sessions, and workshops for the* fifth annual National
Society for Minorities in Honors conference*. This conference is designed
for professors, advisers and students - and you are all welcome to propose
papers, panels or workshops.
A Question of Equity aims to explore the important topic of how we can
support, develop and maintain higher education programs that focus on high
academic achievement, while at the same time allowing equitable access to
and progress in higher learning.
This conference will identify ways in which diversity can be supported in
the recruitment and enrollment of high achievers, and it considers the role
of honors education in enhancing the educational opportunities for all. In
this it will examine the nature of equity in learning, including its
philosophy, equitable pedagogies and the mapping of results.
*A Question of Equity* will focus not only on a diverse population in
higher education but on creating and supporting a population fundamentally
created in and informed by diversity - including practices that reach back
to pre-university environments and challenges notions of educational
attainment and ability.
*Papers* - 10 minutes / 5 minutes questions (15 minutes) - i.e. individual
presentations
*Panels* - 3 papers x 10 minutes / 15 minutes questions (45 minutes total)
- i.e. group presentations
*Workshops* - 45 minutes - i.e. interactive activities
*Important Dates - early submission is encouraged.*
*Deadline for submission*: August 15, 2020
*Notification of acceptance:* August 30, 2020
*Registration Deadline*: October 1, 2020 (General registration is free but
