Are neighbors talking about English Ivy? The invasive that is strangling
thousands
of trees in Takoma Park as per a recent article in Takoma Newsletter?
one word: eliminate
how? contact Friends of Sligo Creek (R. Invasive Plants) section to learn the
simple technique (which is to cut a swath out, about 2' long so it can die where
it lies and cease strangling our valuable Takoma Park trees). Not hard to do,
but worth doing. Thanks to folks who do:)

Has anyone noticed a major ivy/pachysandra die off in their yards. Yes I have
deer but they have only stripped the leaves off the bushes and don’t eat the
ground cover. All my ivy has just died after 30+ years of being totally full
and healthy. Just curious.

So agree! Let’s go further! If you travel, I’d be happy to pick up your
mail and newspaper and water your plants. And I’d happily lend baking
supplies if you run short.

So agree! If you have an ivy blight, Ellen, please send it our way - and feel

This happens every few years. I believe that there is some kind of air
show from time to time at Andrews Air Force Base which includes historic
airplanes. They seem to fly in this direction on flight paths that go more
or less over TPMS and parallel to Gist Ave.. It might have been a practice
run, otherwise you would have seen the more modern ones as well.
A few years ago - I can't recall exactly how long - while out for a
longish walk in the neighborhood, I saw the whole gamut, from WWII to the
B-1 (or whatever the one is that is all wing and no fuselage). All at
pretty low altitude. The B-52 was just about the loudest mechanical device
that I had ever heard. I think day it must have been the full air show.
I believe that one of the normal Andrews flight paths goes over our area,
as occasionally I see a C-130 going to or coming from that direction. Those
are identifiable because they are (or are able to be when they want to be)
very slow; they seem almost just to be suspended in the air.
