Hi all:
I wanted to enthusiastically recommend a handyman that we just worked with. His
name is Johnny. He lives in Hyattville and he can be reached at 240-831-0187.
He installed fireplace doors for us and replaced a bathroom fan/light fixture
and did an excellent job. He was prompt, very reasonable rates, and did high
quality work. I called him yesterday and he showed up today and did the work.
He seems to be willing to take on all kinds of jobs, so feel free to reach out
to him. He is trying to build up a client base. Please feel free to tell him
you got his name from me.

The Takoma Park parade is cancelled- but no permit to parade with our
children down the sidewalks! If you have kids, or are a kid at heart,
please join us. Takoma, Boston, Baltimore, New York and Buffalo if the
"parade route" passes your house, please consider coming outside to join in
the fun.
Families, Kids, Big "Kids":
Please join us in your most patriotic attire. Bring your kids, your wagons,
your mini-flags and whatever instruments you can find around the house. You
could even come as a classic Takoma Park parade float if you are feeling
particularly nostalgic.
We will plan to gather in Belle Ziegler Park around 9am and we will begin
parading North East on Takoma Avenue at 9:30 sharp to beat the inevitable
heat.
Please feel free to pass the invite along; the more the merrier.

Marcella, thanks for trying to keep the TP Fourth spirit alive this year. I
wish you had brought this idea to the TPIDC. Perhaps it could have been
expanded. The TPIDC is sponsoring a July Fourth home decorating contest in
place of the parade.. Hope you and your neighbors can participate. We are
looking forward to having a traditional celebration next year.

Mr. Gillum,
Did you receive any answers from your query regarding insulation
installers? I was looking for replies but didn't see any. If you have since
had your attic/house insulated by a particular company, what was your
experience with them?
Sincerely,

Dear neighbors - we have a dead tree and a waiver from the city for its
removal so we're looking for estimates. I've called Bartlett (they can't
come till the 22nd), Artistic Tree Experts, and Takoma Tree Experts. Any
other recommendations or bad experiences?
We also need a handyman to see if we can fix the handle of our front
screen door - don't know if it can be fixed or needs to be replaced. I
think it's too small a job for George Harper and we've had a bad experience
with Rodney Washington. Any other recommendations?
Thanks, everyone. Karen on Takoma kxburke@xxxxxxx
Last week, with no warning or wind or rain, a tree in our back yard split
almost in half. I was standing in the kitchen, heard a big crack and
watched a thick branch come down, stopping and resting on the roof of our
back porch, narrowly missing our very large plate glass windows.
I quickly got on the listserve (yeah, listserve!!). Called several places
and Ed's tree service could come the next morning. It was $2500 which is
more than I thought it would be - but they did a great job and came
immediately. So I do recommend them.
The limb was fully green and healthy - with no signs of dead areas. They
speculated that wind had roughed it up over the months and maybe the
twisting had weakened the juncture of this large limb at the trunk. Who
knows -

I have used Chapingo in the past and they are excellent but expensive.
This summer we had two dead trees. One has already been removed. The other
in 2 weeks. We are using Adirondak. Very reasonable.
