Re: WWII planes over North Takoma
This happens every few years. I believe that there is some kind of air show
from time to time at Andrews Air Force Base which includes historic airplanes.
They seem to fly in this direction on flight paths that go more or less over
TPMS and parallel to Gist Ave.. It might have been a practice run, otherwise
you would have seen the more modern ones as well.
A few years ago - I can't recall exactly how long - while out for a longish
walk in the neighborhood, I saw the whole gamut, from WWII to the B-1 (or
whatever the one is that is all wing and no fuselage). All at pretty low
altitude. The B-52 was just about the loudest mechanical device that I had ever
heard. I think day it must have been the full air show.
I believe that one of the normal Andrews flight paths goes over our area, as
occasionally I see a C-130 going to or coming from that direction. Those are
identifiable because they are (or are able to be when they want to be) very
slow; they seem almost just to be suspended in the air.
